INTRODUCTION:
Information systems are used in almost every imaginable career area. From governments and multi-billion corporations, professional and research institutions down to the small business operative information systems is an indispensable tool. Businesses of all sizes could not survive without information systems to perform many business routines. Regardless of your college major or future career, you will find that information systems is an indispensable tool to help you achieve your career aspirations. This course is designed as a managerial overview of how information systems can is used in the firm as a business enabler. This course covers topics like hardware, software, databases, telecommunication, e-commerce and m-commerce, transaction processing, enterprise resource planning, information and decision support systems, and ethical and societal issues.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of this course are to provide the student with an understanding of the operational, tactical and strategic benefits of information systems in the business environment; the use of information technology in facilitating such benefits; and the competitive advantage that results when IS and IT are used successfully to achieve business objectives. Therefore, it is important that informed users of information technology:

1. understand the conceptual foundations of information systems and their role in business
2. have a working knowledge of concepts and terminology related to information systems and the procedures used to develop such systems
3. are aware of current information technology issues
4. understand the impacts of information technology on a business
5. understand how to use information systems to help solve business problems
ISD 252 INTRODUCTION TO LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (Group 1)
Logistics and supply chain management (SCM) underpin business or corporate strategy because they inform company objectives in sales, market share, share price, returns on shareholder funds, investment and assets.
This course is about matching supply and demand through the management of material and information flows in a supply chain. It is therefore focused on giving students a fundamental understanding of all subject fields of logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM).
The course aims at equipping students with a sound fundamental knowledge base and basic skills regarding Logistics and Supply chain management. This course will imbibe in students the disciplines of logistics and supply chain activities, the role of logistics and supply chain managers, Warehousing, Transport, Inventory, and Purchasing Management.
